Studies show that weight loss is a challenging process
Weight loss is not an easy journey and a new study by Spanish researchers demonstrates that it takes a lot of perseverance and dedication to lose a significant amount of weight.
The study, conducted by a group of scientists from the University of Granada (UGR), looked at the effectiveness of a calorific restriction plan to reduce body fat and weight.
The result showed that it was difficult to lose weight, as 72% of the volunteers had failed to lose a significant amount of weight after one month following the diet plan.
The team observed that an individual’s response to caloric restriction was based on individual characteristics such as age, gender, level of physical activity, initial BMI and per cent of fat. In addition, it was found that the adherence to the diet, in general, was low.
This suggests that a combination of factors affect the success of a diet, and that it takes committed lifestyle changes to achieve significant weight loss.
The findings highlight the importance of guidance, support, and follow-up when adopting a calorific restriction diet, to maximize the chance of success. The team believes the findings provide useful insight into the challenges of weight loss and presents an opportunity for health professionals to tailor advice towards individual dietary needs more effectively.
