Texas Governor appoints Czar to accelerate wall construction along US-Mexico border
Texas Governor Greg Abbott appointed ex-border patrolman Mike Banks as the state’s “border czar” on Monday to accelerate the construction of the wall along the US-Mexico border.
Given the Biden Administration’s refusal to control migration, the new czar’s mission is to speed up the construction of the wall in Texas. Governor Abbott was seen at San Benito’s southernmost city overseeing the installation of a portion of the wall.
The position was created under the “Operation Lone Star” project that was launched in 2021 to counter illegal migrants from Mexico. Abbott believes this will help tackle the increasing illegal migration in the US.
The governor further stated that procedures for acquiring rights for certain lands for the construction has also been streamlined. Building the wall is estimated to cost $25 million per mile. The US-Mexico border is approximately 1,900 miles long, with more than half of it in Texas.
