Monterrey rises to first place from beatign Puebla 1-2 in the Clausura 2023 tournament
Monterrey pushed to the top of the standings of the Mexican soccer Clausura 2023 tournament after beating Puebla 1-2 on the 28th January 2023. Uruguayan Emanuel Gularte was the first to threaten the goal of Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada in the 9th minute, and Argentine Federico Mancuello equalised for Puebla in the 44th minute. However, in the second half Monterrey rallied back, starting with a free kick shot from Alfonso González to even the score in the 64th minute, and then Aguirre securing the victory with a shot going past the right post of Puebla’s Paraguayan goalkeeper Antony Silva. Despite the defeat, Puebla still retains tenth place in the tournament with four points. On Saturday, UANL Tigres will host San Luis, Águilas del América will host Mazatlán FC and Juárez will host Chivas del Guadalajara, and the fourth day of matches will end on Sunday with duels Toluca-León, Pachuca-Necaxa and Querétaro-Cruz Azul.
