Pedro Pascal’s Secret in Playing Din Djarin in the Mandalorian
The Mandalorian has been a massive hit since its release in November 2019, and one of the main reasons is the outstanding performance of Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin. However, what many fans don’t know is that the actor doesn’t always play the character when he is in his full armor.
As Screen Rant points out, Pascal has two stunt doubles, Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder, who take over in the action scenes. Pascal revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that playing Din Djarin is a collaboration between the three of them.
Pascal may not always be present while his stunt doubles take over, as he was working on another project during the entire fourth episode of the first season. Nonetheless, he is always the one who lends his voice to the character, recording much of the dialogue separately.
This separation of duties has become a necessity due to the limitations of Din Djarin’s helmet, which Pascal wears for the majority of the show. While the Mandalorian is not the only show to use separate actors for dialogue and physical performance, it is still a lesser-known aspect of filming.
Despite the limitations, Pascal has still managed to bring his unique charisma and acting abilities to the character, becoming an integral part of the successful show’s identity. At the same time, his absence for some filming has allowed his stunt doubles to shine in the action scenes, adding an extra level of skill and professionalism to the series.
As fans eagerly await the third season’s premiere, it is interesting to note how the series fits within Pascal’s schedule. With the actor also starring in The Last of Us series, which has coinciding production dates, it remains to be seen how often he will be present on the set for the new Mandalorian episodes.
Regardless, fans can expect the same level of excitement, emotions, and action, as well as the beloved Din Djarin, when Season 3 premieres on Disney+ on March 1, 2023.
