The Ukrainian Army has confirmed that a soldier, Timofi Mykolayovich Shadura, who had been missing since February 3, was the soldier seen in an execution video that had gone viral on social media. In the video, the soldier can be seen saying “Glory to Ukraine!” before being shot by a group of Russian soldiers. The Ukrainian Army has vowed to seek vengeance for Shadura’s death, but has noted that the final identification of his body will only be possible after Russian forces return it to Ukrainian territory. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also promised to find Shadura’s murderers and called for an investigation by the International Criminal Court. The video has sparked outrage in Ukraine, where the phrase “Glory to Ukraine” has become a symbol of patriotism and resistance against Russian aggression. Moscow and Kiev have both accused each other of killing prisoners of war since the start of the conflict.
