Ukraine Requests Long-Range Missiles and Fighter Jets From the West
Ukraine calls on allies to provide air and artillery support in the face of Russian aggression
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky urged allies on Wednesday (01.25.2023) to provide long-range missiles, artillery and combat aircraft to confront the increasing Russian aggression.
The president thanked allies Germany and the United States for their decision to supply Ukraine with heavy tanks and indicated that the shipment of military material must take place as soon as possible and be of sufficient magnitude to repel the offensive.
His statements came after the Deputy Minister of Defense, Ganna Maliar, indicated that the Russian army intensified its offensive in the Donetsk region, in the Donbas basin (east), where it has superior firepower.
“Deliveries of long-range missiles to Ukraine should also be made possible. This is important. We must also expand our cooperation on artillery and the possibility of sending combat planes,” stated Zelensky, expressing that he had already addressed these demands to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in a phone conversation.
The president highlighted how important speed and volume are, referring to the training of the Ukrainian military and the amount of support required.
“The key now is speed and volume. The speed in the training of our military, the speed in the delivery of the tanks (…) and the volume of support,” he said.
Zelensky stressed that the Ukrainian army is doing its best to face the dozens of daily attacks of the enemy in the Donbas basin.
