Ukraine’s President Volodimir Zelensky indicated Monday (01/09/2023) that his troops are facing more aggressive attacks from Russian forces in the city of Soledar, near Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine.
He thanked the Ukrainian soldiers who are protecting the city of Bakhmut and its inhabitants. Adding, “Everything is completely destroyed…Soledar is covered with the bodies of the invaders and terrified by the explosions.”
Posting on Telegram, Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Ganna Malyar stated that “Following an unsuccessful attempt by the enemy to seize Soledar and subsequent withdrawal, (the Russians) regrouped, regained strength, sent additional assault units, changed tactics and resumed attacks.”
The invading forces, consisting of Wagner group reserves, are reportedly walking over the bodies of their own soldiers.
This attack, part of a broader Russian campaign to gain control of Bakhmut, a city of around 70,000 people before the war, follows the earlier pro-Russian separatist forces’ capture of Bakhmutske.
President Zelensky appealed for support and urged all of Ukraine to remain vigilant to protect their homeland from the ongoing Russian aggression.
