Two Palestinians Killed by Israeli Troops in Latest Conflict
Palestinian fighters clash with Israeli soldiers in the West Bank, resulting in three deaths Two Palestinian fighters from the Islamic Jihad movement died early this Saturday morning (01.14.2023) in a confrontation with Israeli soldiers conducting an incursion into the occupied West Bank. The two men, aged 23 and 24, were identified as Izz Eddin Basem Hamamreh, 24, and Amjad Adnan Khalilieh, 23.
The military wing of Islamic Jihad lamented in a statement the death of “its heroic martyrs”, who died trying to interpose themselves before the “occupation forces while carrying out a cowardly assault operation”. The Israeli army reported that its troops were carrying out “anti-terrorist activities” when “suspects opened fire on them from a moving vehicle”.
In addition to these two young people, a third Palestinian died this day in the West Bank due to injuries sustained during an armed confrontation with Israeli soldiers on January 2 in the town of Kfar Dan. He was identified as Yazan Samer Jabari, 19.
So far in 2023, the spiral of violence that affects the region has left twelve Palestinians dead and three of them are older. This was preceded by the three deaths registered on Thursday in the framework of a series of military raids in different parts of the occupied West Bank.
Violence has pervaded the area since Israel launched its “Breaking the Wave” operation last March following a series of deadly attacks by Palestinians and Israeli Arabs. The year 2022 was the deadliest in the West Bank since the end of the Second Intifada (2000-2005).
The Islamic Jihad movement is considered by the European Union a terrorist group.
