The tragic incident that occurred on Thursday morning on I-35 in Dallas resulted in the deaths of four young people. The victims were identified as Sabria Lacey, Anthony Lisbon, Auber Raejon, and Robert Gowans, all of whom were between 21 and 22 years old. The young people were fleeing from the Irving Police after being suspected of being aboard a stolen car.

The chase began on Belt Line Street in Irving and ended about 13 miles later on I-35 and Woodall Rodgers Flyover, almost entering the center of Dallas. Videos revealed by local police show the car in which the young people were traveling falling off the elevated road. This was the second fatal chase in less than a week in the Metroplex.

The incident raises questions about whether the Irving police trespassed their jurisdiction by following the teens to Dallas. Haim Vásquez, a lawyer, explains that each police department has guidelines for how far they can cross jurisdictional boundaries when pursuing suspects. The officers and supervisors who pursue vehicles must justify their decision to continue the chase.

The Dallas Police Department reported 89 chases in 2023 and 3 so far this year. The Arlington Police Department had 63 chases in 2022 and 72 in 2021. The fatal victims of the chase that ended in Dallas are Sabria Denise Lacey, Anthony Isaiah Lisbon, DeAvion Raejon Aubert, and Robert Alexander Jr. Gowans, all between 21 and 22 years old.

The incident began around 2 a.m. near the 3200 block of North Belt Line Road, when Irving police discovered a stolen vehicle and attempted to conduct a stop. However, the suspect car fled at high speed, triggering an intense chase. The chase ended when the vehicle lost control and crashed near I-35 and the Woodall Rodgers exit ramp, resulting in the tragic death of the four people who were inside.

The accident caused the closure of the ramp and impacted traffic in the area. Additionally, a County Sheriff’s deputy of Dallas was injured when the suspect vehicle crashed into a light pole. The crash occurred before he could complete his task, leaving the officer injured in the incident.

The names of the victims have not yet been released, and the investigation is ongoing. This story is still developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
