The recent assault on two NYPD officers is completely unacceptable. The President and other officials have expressed their outrage at these attacks on law enforcement. They hope the officers recover quickly while the assault is being investigated. The governor of New York, Democrat Katy Hochul, suggested that the deportation of those who attacked the police officers should be considered. She stated that if someone commits a crime against a police officer in the state of New York and is not here legally, their status should be reviewed.

Five individuals were arrested in connection with the assault on the police officers, but four of them were released shortly after. The fifth suspect, Jhoan Boada, has a police record and remains under arrest. The attack on the police officers was the main topic of discussion at a round table of Republican representatives. Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, a Republican from New York’s 11th district, has requested the director of ICE to deport those who attacked the police officers.

The Row Hotel, a former four-star hotel in Times Square, has been transformed into a shelter for immigrants. The hotel used to cost around $400 a night, but now it has been repurposed to house immigrants. The rooms have been redecorated and now serve as temporary housing for refugees. However, there have been concerns raised about the hygiene of some of the rooms and whether the refugees have been informed about the rules they must follow at the shelter.

Employees at the hotel have expressed concerns about the cleanliness of the spaces given to some of the new inhabitants. There are also worries about refugees cooking in the rooms, which violates fire laws and endangers everyone’s safety. Additionally, some refugees have been throwing away food, and others have been smoking in the rooms, despite it being prohibited. The accumulation of clothes and the presence of alcoholic beverages in the rooms have also been noted as potential safety hazards.

It is important to note that these concerns do not represent the way of life of all refugees, as the group is varied and each room is a different world. However, many of the foods provided by the city for immigrants were found in garbage bags, indicating a potential issue with the food supply. Mayor Eric Adams has called for an investigation into this situation to prevent waste and ensure the well-being of the immigrants staying at the shelter.
