Over 80 people have been arrested in Paris amidst widespread protests against pension reforms in France. The protests, which have been ongoing for three days, have been met with a government ban on protesting in certain areas, leading protesters to move to the Place d’Italia in the south of Paris. Union activists, left-wing parties and individuals not affiliated with any organization have all joined the protests. The situation has become tense in several cities in the south of France as well, with violent clashes erupting between protesters and police. Trade unions have also staged partial strikes, affecting transportation, oil refineries, and garbage collection services. This has led to piles of garbage accumulating on the streets of Paris for almost two weeks. The pension reform, which raises the retirement age from 62 to 64 years, was passed without a vote in the National Assembly which has stoked more anger in the street. Protests have also moved to Parliament where two motions of no confidence are being considered to overturn the Emmanuel Macron-led French government.
