United Nations Security Council members have completed their mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with the objective of better understanding the security and humanitarian situation in the east of the country. The M23, supported by Rwanda, has been advancing, making the mission challenging. The evaluation of the effectiveness of the UN mission was also discussed, as well as the wide range of tools available to the Security Council to achieve peace and security, with sanctions being only one option among many. In the meantime, violence continues, with nearly 300,000 people fleeing from Rutshuru and Masisi territories in February alone.
