**Details behind Ed Skrein’s shocking departure from Game of Thrones**
In one of the biggest surprise decisions to ever take place in television history, actor Ed Skrein was replaced as Daario Naharis in the fourth season of Game of Thrones by Michiel Huisman. Though the change was initially reported to be the result of the former’s commitments in The Carrier, according to Skrein himself, his departure was “much more political” in nature.
In an interview with EW, the actor stated that he had plans to stay with the show for a long time but had to leave due to differences with the production team. He also said that he just had to “look ahead, stay positive” in times of difficulty and hype.
Even though many viewers were confused by the drastic change of looks between Skrein’s Daario Naharis and Huisman’s, the team behind GoT actually made the right call with their decision as the latter actor held an important role in season four as an ally of Daenerys Targaryen and eventually as her lover. Along with Gray Worm and Jorah Mormont, he swore allegiance to the Queen of Dragon and helped her conquer Yunkai and Meereen.
Huisman’s character then stayed in Meereen to protect it in Daenerys’ absence when she led her army back to Westeros, his last scenes being in season six.
Though it is uncertain what exactly prompted this shocking departure from the show in the first place, fans can only hope to find more details about the decision in the near future.
