The Last Airbender’s Box Office Earnings Exceed $2 Billion, Already Profitable
Avatar: The Sense of Water Joins the List of Highest-Grossing Films Ever
James Cameron has done it again. Yesterday, Avatar: The Sense of Water joined the list of five highest-grossing films ever, making it the third film to bear the filmmaker’s signature.
This puts the six highest-grossing films of all time in order as follows: Avatar (2009), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Titanic (1997), Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avatar: The Sense of Water (2022). It also means that Avatar is the only film to breach the 2,000 million box office receipts mark twice.
The sequel was made with an enormous budget of between $350 and $450 million, justified by Cameron’s decision to shoot Avatar 3, 4, and 5 at the same time. This way, the cast will not change drastically between the sequels. Avatar 3: The Seed Bearer and Avatar 4: The Tulkun Rider are coming to cinemas in 2024 and 2026, respectively. Avatar 5: The Quest for Eywa will arrive in cinemas on December 22, 2028.
James Cameron claims to not be one to bite his tongue and has already began to make spoilers and announce events without any filter. The future looks bright for the Avatar series.
