Henry Cavill is excited about the Amazon Warhammer 40,000 project, calling it the greatest privilege of his professional career. He expressed his excitement in an interview with Josh Horowitz, saying that it is still early in the project but having the opportunity to bring it to the screen and be in charge so he can be faithful is key for him. He has been a fan of Warhammer since he was a kid and is thrilled to bring it to life.
In late 2022, Amazon Studios announced that it had secured the rights to Warhammer 40,000 and planned to launch a “Warhammer programming universe” that would be executive produced and star Henry Cavill. Then, in late 2023, Games Workshop confirmed that it had signed a “full agreement” contract with Amazon, meaning that “the next stage can begin.” Warhammer 40,000 is Games Workshop’s science fiction universe used as the setting for its popular tabletop war game starring the iconic Space Marines. It’s a grim universe in which humanity clings to survival in the face of terrifying threats inside and outside the fascist Empire.
There’s a lot we don’t know about the Cinematic Universe of Warhammer 40,000, including whether the project will start with a movie or a television series. Games Workshop has teased that it could end up doing both. A group of screenwriters has come together to discover how to make the magic happen. Cavill, a renowned Warhammer 40,000 fan, seemed very excited about the project, saying, “I’ve loved Warhammer since I was a kid, which makes this moment really special for me.”
He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to guide this cinematic universe from its inception. Cavill has also expressed interest in playing one of the Primarchs or Captain Generals, who are key high-ranking characters from Warhammer history. However, fans will have to wait for the release of the movie or series, as Cavill is about to start training for the Highlander reboot, due out sometime in 2026.
