Tekken 8 boss tackles online cheating, releases balance patch

News Team

The boss of Tekken 8, Katsuhiro Harada, has taken action against the issue of cheating in ranked matches that is affecting the online leaderboards. In a tweet, Harada announced that Bandai Namco has launched an investigation into the match data of top-ranked players who have been reported for cheating in online matches, including ranked matches.

Harada stated that if someone is found to have cheated to reach the top of the leaderboard, they will be sent an in-game warning. During the next maintenance, their data will be reset and their account will be suspended. Harada assured players that they will be kept informed of the status of this matter as soon as more information becomes available.

Cheating has been a concern for legitimate players of Tekken 8 since its launch on January 26 on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. In our Tekken 8 review, we concluded that “Tekken knows where it comes from, and we love where it’s going. The new mechanics build on a well-established foundation, and add a special flavor that both newcomers and veterans will enjoy.”

On February 7, Bandai Namco released the first major patch for Tekken 8, updating the game to version 1.01.04. The balance patch makes replay data from before the update unavailable and is deleted. Ghost data from previous versions will still be available, but character behavior and movements will be updated with the balance changes introduced by the patch.

The patch includes balance adjustments, such as changes to the behavior and move properties of some characters. Players can check the detailed list of changes on the official Bandai Namco website. The patch also includes other game-related bug fixes.

Overall, it’s clear that Bandai Namco is taking the issue of cheating in Tekken 8 seriously and is committed to maintaining a fair and enjoyable online experience for all players. With the release of the first balance patch, the game continues to evolve and improve, providing an exciting and competitive environment for both newcomers and veterans alike.
