German Prosecutor Arrests Alleged Accomplice of BND Spy for Russia
The German federal prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday the arrest last weekend of an alleged accomplice of an agent of the German intelligence services accused of spying for Russia.
Arthur E., a German national, was arrested on Sunday at an airport in Munich after returning from a trip to the United States. He is accused of having provided information to the Russian secret services, given to him by Carsten L., an agent of German secret intelligence services (BND) who was arrested more than a year ago.
According to the prosecution, although Arthur E. did not work for the German intelligence services, his arrest followed in close collaboration with the BND and the support of the American FBI.
The arrest of Carsten L. on December 22 had a great media coverage in Germany. He was accused of having provided Russia with highly classified material and information about the BND.
