Paris-Nice Cycling Race: Sixth Stage Canceled Due to Strong Winds
The sixth stage of Paris-Nice, which was supposed to link Tourves (Var) to La Colle-sur-Loup (Alpes-Maritimes), was canceled on March 10 due to exceptionally strong winds in the area. The organizers initially considered shortening the race but later decided to cancel it altogether. The two departments were under an orange alert for strong winds, and the organizers prioritized the safety of riders and spectators over the race.
Pierre-Yves Thouault, the Deputy Director of Cycling at Amaury Sport Organization, stated that they could not ensure the safety of the race and that preserving the riders’ and spectators’ integrity was their top priority.
The cancellation of the sixth stage has disrupted the race’s schedule, and the riders will now head to the seventh stage, which will link Le Broc to Valdeblore La Colmaine. However, the organizers are closely monitoring the weather conditions and may make further changes to the race’s schedule if necessary.
Paris-Nice is an eight-stage race that began on March 7 and will end on March 14. Despite the cancellation of the sixth stage, spectators can still look forward to the remaining stages of the iconic cycling race.
