**Flight disruptions in Düsseldorf airport due to strike called by ground handling services personnel**
A strike by the ground handling services personnel of the Aviapartner company has forced a cancellation of half of the flights in German airport of Düsseldorf this Friday. According to the airport’s website, the strike called by the services union ver.di will go on until Saturday 00:30 (23:30 GMT).

Due to the strike, disruption in flight operations are expected and travellers are asked to check with their airlines or tour operators regarding the status of their flight before travelling. The strike is due to a new handling services contract, which Aviapartner was not awarded, which ver.di believes will result in the loss of 700 jobs.

Aviapartner has rejected the workers’ demands of a social plan with corresponding compensation for those threatened with dismissaal. Dusseldorf airport is the largest airport in North Rhine-Westphalia (west) and the third largest in Germany.

Earlier this week, a strike by ver.di to demand better wages for ground handling workers completely paralyzed the Berlin-Brandenburg Airport.
