Stranger Things Season 4 breaks audience records in the US

Netflix original series Stranger Things has broken viewing records in the United States after its fourth season. According to Nielsen’s analysis, more than 52 million minutes of the show have been streamed over the past year.

The two-volume season finale is being followed with great anticipation for an imminent fifth season. Actor David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper, recently said the show will “probably” continue next year or in 2024.

NCIS came second amongst streaming content with 38.1 million minutes watched in the past year. Children show Cocomelon came third with 37.8 million. Netflix had four of the top 15 shows overall, while Disney+ monopolised 10 of the 15 most watched movies. Of those, the biggest success was cartoon show Charm with 27.4 million minutes watched – more than double the second placed movie Turning Red.

The rankings again demonstrate Netflix’s high performance compared to other streaming services such as HBO Max, Prime Video and Disney+.
