Spanish Police Investigates Possible Jihadist Attack
The Spanish Police is investigating a possible jihadist attack by 25-year-old Moroccan national, Yasin Kanza, in Algeciras, Spain. He allegedly killed one person with a large machete and injured three others, including the 74-year-old priest.
According to sources close to the investigation, the attacker was dressed in a black djellaba and shouted “death to Christians” and “Allah is great”. The assault happened inside a chapel, where the priest was celebrating the Eucharist, and then moved outside where stabbed the sacristan, Diego Valencia, to death.
Kanza was pending deportation to Morocco and his radicalization had triggered the attention of the Spanish security forces. The investigation is handled by the police, aiming to determine the exact motives of the attack.
The priest has successfully underwent surgery and is now out of danger.
