Spanish nurse accused of faking vaccinations for children by 42 families

A nurse in the Basque Country, in northern Spain, is being investigated for falsely administering vaccines to children. Laura Alonso, who is also a nurse, took her two-year-old daughter to get the chickenpox vaccine but was surprised by the speed at which the nurse administered the dose, leading her to suspect the vaccine had not been given. Later, it emerged that most children vaccinated at the clinic, including Alonso’s daughter, had not been properly immunised. The Basque Health Service has opened an investigation and an information file on the nurse. The families of 42 children are suing for alleged embezzlement of public funds and document falsification. The investigation has been extended to 400 children. The Public Health Directorate has decided to administer an additional dose to all children vaccinated by the nurse. The families’ objective is to see the nurse disabled so that she cannot give vaccines in the future.
