South Africa Announces New Minister of Electricity to End Load Shedding

South Africa has appointed a Minister of Electricity, an unprecedented position, to tackle the ongoing crisis of power cuts that have been damaging the country’s economy. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, a former mayor of Pretoria, will report directly to the President and will be responsible for reducing the severity of load shedding in the coming months, as it has become a priority for Cyril Ramaphosa. The appointment was made as part of a government reshuffle, aimed at reassuring voters before the upcoming presidential election, and while maintaining some controversial ministers in the Cabinet. Ramaphosa has also named a new vice-president, Paul Mashatile in a bid to balance the team. His mission is to satisfy the party while reassuring his voters.
