Ukrainians Intercept Russian Attack
On Thursday, 01.25.2023, more than 30 missiles were launched by Russian forces towards several regions in Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv and the Vinnytsia region.
Yuri Ignat, a Ukrainian military spokesman, confirmed the attacks on local media, saying that the country’s air defense systems were working to defend against the missiles. Nataliia Humeniuk, head of the Joint Press Center for the Pivden Operational Command, had predicted a “large-scale missile attack” from the Caspian Sea.
The first missiles were intercepted by the Ukrainian army. Additionally, the army managed to shoot down 24 Iranian-made “kamikaze drones” on the night of January 25-26, most of them in the center of the country.
In response to the attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the West for long-range missiles and fighter jets.
The Military Administration of Kyiv reported that 15 Shahed drones heading towards the city and a number of cruise missiles were destroyed by the Ukrainian air defenses.
Serhii Popko, head of the Ukrainian capital’s Military Administration urged citizens to stay in air-raid shelters until the end of the alert.
Kyiv’s anti-missile alert sirens sounded this morning to prepare for the Russian attack, which has been neutralized for the moment.
