Nayarit authorities confirmed a confrontation that took place in Jalisco. The events occurred in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco on Tuesday, February 6. According to local media, the confrontation took place in the town of La Desembocada, which led to the mobilization of security forces to the area.
The Nayarit Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSyPC) confirmed a “confrontation between security forces and civilians” in Jalisco. The SSyPC stated that these actions occurred in the towns of El Ranchito and La Desembocada in Jalisco. Although the Nayarit authorities did not indicate whether there were injured people, they stated that members of various security corporations were deployed to prevent any violent action in Nayarit.
The State Highway and Tourist Police, in coordination with the Secretariat of the Navy, SEDENA, and the National Guard, have activated relevant security measures to protect the borders and prevent any possible repercussions in the area. Nayarit authorities reiterated that no violent activities have been reported in Nayarit, although they maintain constant surveillance and operations.
According to reporter Evaristo Tenorio from Fuerza Informativa Azteca de Jalisco, two members of the National Guard were wounded in the feet, while a couple of civilians were wounded in the arm and abdomen. Some versions indicate that these subjects were detained. However, the official website of the National Guard had not reported on the confrontation at least until 4:00 in the afternoon.
The first reports indicated that the confrontation began when national guards were carrying out surveillance patrols and were attacked by armed civilians. The attack against the security personnel occurred on Tuesday afternoon, around 1:30 in the afternoon and lasted a few minutes. To date, it is not known if the men who attacked the uniformed officers were related to any criminal group.
According to data from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Puerto Vallarta is an entity in which important men for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) operate. On November 2023, various companies linked to timeshare fraud were sanctioned and that would be related to the criminal group led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, El Mencho. On that occasion, 13 companies linked to the CJNG were sanctioned. The majority are dedicated to real estate and are located in Puerto Vallarta, a municipality that was identified as a “strategic fortress” for the trafficking of prohibited substances and other illicit activities. Three Mexicans who were linked to the fraud were also sanctioned. These actions are added to those of April and March of last year on occasions in which several companies were also sanctioned.
