Rafael Nadal Drops to 6th in ATP World Rankings as Europe Regains Dominance

Rafael Nadal Slips Out of The Top-10 World Ranking in ATP List

Spanish tennis superstar Rafael Nadal, first seeded, fell on Wednesday (18.1.2023) from the second to the sixth world position in the ATP list. His drop out of the top-10 in the rankings came after his defeat to the American Mackenzie McDonald in the 2022 Australian Open, thus losing 2000 points he had gained with his victory at the same open.

It may be interesting to note that this is not the first time Nadal has experienced this situation. In the 2018 edition he had to leave due to discomfort in his right thigh during the fifth set against the Croatian Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals.

Although Nadal is far ahead of his closest pursuers (Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz, Holger Rune and Hubert Hurkacz) at the moment, the latter are still in the running in the ongoing Australian Open with a chance to overtake him in the ranking.
