XV Santo Domingo Global Film Festival Dedicated To Andalusia and Late Dominican Filmmaker Claudia Chea
The XV edition of the Santo Domingo Global Film Festival has opened its curtains with a gala held at Eduardo Brito National Theater in the Dominican Republic. This edition of the festival was dedicated to the culture of Andalusia and the late Dominican filmmaker Claudia Chea.
The gala was inaugurated with “Modelo 77” (2022), a Spanish film by Alberto Rodríguez Librero, nominated for 16 Goya awards, with actor Jesus Carroza participating in the opening.
The Spanish actress Paz Vega was one of the awardees and expressed feeling “very proud of her roots” “It is an honor to receive this recognition,” said Vega, who was acclaimed by the audience.
In addition to the recognition to Paz Vega, the Spanish actor Kaliah Garzón was also honored for her contributions to the Dominican film industry.“I am Spanish, but I feel Dominican every time I come here,” she said.
The festival will have four sections in competition and will last until January 29. The awards ceremony will be held on 27th in the presence of cultural, political and institutional actors of the country.
