European Parliament withdraws immunity from MEPs Marc Tarabella and Andrea Cozzolino
The members of European Parliament (MEPs) Marc Tarabella and Andrea Cozzolino have had their immunity withdrawn on Thursday (2.2.2023). This was done by a large majority in both cases, allowing Belgian Justice to continue its course of action regarding their involvement in a bribery case connected with Qatar and Morocco.
The Belgian authorities had asked the European Parliament to revoke the MEPs’ Immunity from January 2. The process was completed in one month, which is significantly less than the deliberation time for other similar cases.
Tarabella, the MEP present at the session, voted in favour of lifting his own immunity. Therefore, both Tarabella and Cozzolino have been suspended from the Social Democratic Group.
The judicial process shall continue as their immunity has been withdrawn, effectively supporting the Belgian investigation.
