Palestinian Government Condemns “Execution” at West Bank Checkpoint
** Palestinians Accused of Execution at West Bank Checkpoint**
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Relations has accused Israeli forces of having “executed” a Palestinian at a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank on Sunday morning.
According to the Israeli army, 45-year-old Ahmad Kahla was shot when trying to get hold of one of the soldier’s weapons during a routine inspection at a military checkpoint near the town of Silwad.
Qusai Kahla, the deceased’s son who was with him in the vehicle, stated that the soldiers fired tear gas at them and made him get out of the car. Soon after, his uncle informed him that his father had died.
The Israeli army claimed that the Palestinians refused to stop and that the soldiers used “riot gear to detain one of the suspects in the vehicle.”
Kahla was shot in the neck and dozens of people gathered for his funeral, according to an AFP correspondent. With his death, 13 Palestinians have already been killed in the West Bank since 2021, the majority of them shot by Israeli soldiers.
