Tinder is the most popular dating app in Spain, with over 4 million users. Grindr has the highest average usage time, with users spending eight and a half hours per month on the app. Dating apps and websites have been around for almost 20 years, and the landscape has evolved over time.
According to David Sánchez, the director of Digital Solutions at GfK, the dating scene has diversified and specialized. There are platforms for people looking for serious relationships, casual encounters, the LGBTI community, and those focused on creating a safe space for women.
In Spain, dating apps and websites bring together just over 4 million users per month, with the number remaining constant throughout the year. Tinder is the most used app, with over 1.5 million monthly users, each spending an average of two and a half hours on the platform. Badoo, one of the oldest dating apps, has over 900,000 monthly users, while Grindr, aimed at gay and bisexual men, attracted 484,687 users in the last month analyzed.
The majority of monthly users fall between the ages of 25 and 44, with the most active users being between 25 and 34 years old. However, younger and older age groups are less likely to use dating platforms. Adults between 25 and 34 years old spend an average of four hours and 45 minutes a month on dating apps, while those between 35 and 44 years old spend over five hours per month.
There are significant gender differences in dating app usage. The number of male users more than doubles that of female users, and men also spend more time on the apps, with an average of four hours and 33 minutes compared to two and a half hours for women.
The professional profile of dating app users also varies. Civil servants are the most active, with around 407,000 accessing dating platforms each month, while those in the Health and Beauty industry spend the most time per month flirting online, with an average of 5 hours and 14 minutes.
