The Original Sonic Character was Not A Hedgehog
Naoto Ohshima, character designer for Sonic the Hedgehog and other titles in the saga, revealed in a tweet that Sonic wasn’t always a hedgehog. According to him, the original draft included two brothers who protected the world from the boss of the Nightmare World, Thirteen. The second and third illustrations showed the character as a human being, with his twin, both having spiked hairs—blue and pink.
Ohshima hinted long ago that Sonic was going to be human but until now he had ensured that no copies of those concept illustrations existed. Sonic has continued to be popular since its debut on SEGA in 1991.
The brand’s most recent game, Sonic Frontiers, is an open world game that is available on several major platforms including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Series S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Furthermore, Netflix’s Sonic Prime premierd its first season of 8 episodes in 2021, with more chapters being planned for the year. Additionally, Paramount is set to bring out a live action series that is based on the character Knuckles.
It will certainly be interesting to find out how the game, movie, and series turn out.
