North Korea accuses the United States of crossing the “red line” after it sends military equipment to Ukraine

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’ssister, Kim Yo-jong, has criticised the decision of the United States to send military equipment to Ukraine, accusing Washington of crossing a “red line”.

In a statement to the North’s state news agency KCNA, Kim Yo-jong said that the US decision “pushes the regional situation to the current grave phase”. She emphasised that the US was responsible for a “world crisis” and considered them to be “a criminal who poses a serious threat” to Russia’s strategic security.

Kim Yo-jong’s comments followed the US’ decision to send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Germany are to follow suit by sending two battalions of Leopard 2 main battle tanks to the country.

This news comes at a difficult time for relations between the two countries, with the US recently imposing sanctions on North Korea.
