Venezuelan President Calls for Respect and Height in Upcoming Presidential Election

Nicolás Maduro, President of Venezuela, has requested that campaign proposals for the 2024 presidential elections be done “with height” and that the results are respected despite the outcome. In a televised address alongside governors and mayors of the country, he remarked that everything is possible in a democracy. He hopes for the political atmosphere to be one of tolerance, dialogue, inclusion and respect for differences.

In December of 2020, Antonio Ecarri of the Alianza Lápiz party asked for a meeting with the National Electoral Council of Venezuela and that the election be conducted according to the established schedule of the Constitution. David Uzcátegui, a member of Fuerza Vecinal, asked the president for Venezuelan migrants to have the “opportunity and constitutional right” to vote.

President Maduro’s address is part of a wider view for upholding the spirit of democratic engagement throughout the presidential election. Also, it serves to remind the nation of the importance of electoral rights promised to each and every Venezuelan.
