The new release of Grand Theft Auto is set in the Sunshine State, with the trailer featuring scenes inspired by real Florida headlines. The 90-second teaser, released by Rockstar Games, includes classic “Florida Man” characters and scenes that mimic real news footage and clips that became memes from Florida.

The game, GTA 6, takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, with the neon-drenched streets of Vice City representing Miami. The trailer features scenes resembling the facially-tattooed “Florida Joker” Lawrence Sullivan, who went viral in 2017 for his resemblance to the Batman supervillain.

Other scenes in the trailer recreate indelible Sunshine State moments, including a woman gyrating atop a speeding car and a reptile wrangler plucking an alligator from a residential pool. The game also features a Florida man who is infamous for puttering around his house in the buff, and a Florida man who enjoyed watering his lawn au naturel.

The new GTA release, the first since 2013, is one of the most intensely anticipated video game releases in recent memory. The trailer has garnered an avalanche of interest, smashing YouTube records and amassing more views in less than a full day than the teaser for GTA V totaled over the last 13 years.

Despite the intense anticipation, gamers will have to wait until 2025 for the release of the new GTA game. The digital version of the characters in the game is slightly different from the real-life inspirations, but the game pays homage to Florida’s distinctive blend of grime and glitz. The new GTA 6 game trailer has fans excited for the release and eager to see how the game will bring the Sunshine State to life in the gaming world.
