Musk Auctions Off Twitter Furniture to Cut Costs

Acrection: Statue of Blue Bird Sold at $100,000 in Auction by Elon Musk’s Social Network

Elon Musk’s social network has organized an auction and sold a statue of the iconic Twitter’s blue bird for $100,000 on Wednesday (01.18.2023). Desks, coffee machines, decorative objects, such as a two-meter vase, in the shape of “@” were part of the 631 lots in the online sale.

A huge light installation depicting the blue bird was donated for $40,000, according to Heritage Global Partners, the company that organized the sale.

In early November, after buying Twitter for $44 billion, Elon Musk fired half of the group’s 7,500 employees, explaining that the company was losing more than $4 million a day. Most of the revenues come from advertising but several advertisers have been scared off due to Musk’s views and decisions on content moderation.

In December, the billionaire had indicated that he had started “cutting costs like crazy” to avoid defaulting. With the savings made and the launch of a new paid subscription for 8 dollars per month, according to his projections, the social network could achieve a turnover of around 3,000 million dollars in 2023.
