The community of Ojo de Agua in El Arenal, Hidalgo, was the scene of a tragic murder when the lifeless body of a 10-year-old girl was found in her own home. The girl’s mother, María de la Luz DC, 54, reported the incident to the authorities after finding her daughter suspended by the neck and half-naked in the patio of the house when returning from work.

The discovery was made minutes before 8:00 p.m., and local emergency services were called to the scene. Unfortunately, the 10-year-old girl, identified as IGDB, had no vital signs. Agents from the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Hidalgo (PGJEH) arrived to begin the investigation, and the Civil Protection medical team confirmed the absence of vital signs in the girl.

The mother provided her statement to the authorities, detailing the events that led to the discovery. The body was transferred to the forensic medical service for a legal autopsy. This tragic incident is part of a series of femicides recorded in Hidalgo during the year 2024, raising concerns for the safety of women in the region.

Just two days before this incident, the Attorney General’s Office had initiated a similar investigation after the discovery of the lifeless body of a woman in Ciudad Sahagún, municipality of Tepeapulco. According to the Report on Violence against Women of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, several investigations into violent deaths of women have been opened in different municipalities of Hidalgo, including Pachuca, Tizayuca, and Apan.

In Mexico, the General Law of Girls, Boys and Adolescents establishes that serious crimes committed by adolescents, such as homicide, rape, human trafficking, and kidnapping, carry maximum penalties of up to 5 years in prison. Regarding child abuse, the legislation contemplates penalties that range between 6 months and 4 years of deprivation of liberty. These laws are in place to protect the rights and safety of children and adolescents.
