Mobile World Congress: Gadgets, Parallel Worlds

The 2023 edition of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) is set to be a revolutionary one, with a range of innovative technologies on display. From an eternal clone to a connected exoskeleton, here are five of the most exciting highlights of the 2023 MWC.

The first highlight is the UAM flying taxi, developed by SK Telecom and Joby Aviation. This device is a hybrid of a helicopter and a drone, with six electric motors for vertical takeoffs and landings. It can carry up to four passengers in addition to the pilot, and has a maximum speed of 320 km/hour. It is expected to be launched in South Korea as early as 2025.

The second highlight is the PAI (Personal Artificial Intelligence) project by Alt Inc. This project creates a virtual clone of an individual, allowing them to record their life and transmit it to their family or descendants. To do this, three types of information are collected: images, audio recordings, and personal tastes. This allows the clone to think like its actual double.

The third highlight is the Able Human Motion exoskeleton, developed by a Catalan company. This device allows people with a spinal cord injury to get up from their wheelchairs and be able to walk again. It is made of carbon fiber and weighs only 10 kilos. It uses sensors to determine the movements the patient wishes to carry out, and the walking parameters can be adapted to the needs of each individual.

The fourth highlight is the NHOA (Never Home Alone) robot, developed by the Catalan technology center Eurecat. This humanoid robot is designed to alleviate the loneliness of elderly people who live alone. It is six feet tall and can be operated with a touch screen or voice. It is capable of interacting in a socially intelligent way and building an affective relationship with the user.

The final highlight is the Petnow app, which allows owners to identify and track their dogs by scanning their nose. This is an alternative to subcutaneous electronic chips and collars. According to Petnow Inc, a dog’s nose print is as unique as a human fingerprint and is also a reliable means of distinguishing dogs. Owners only have to report the disappearance of their animal online, and wait to be notified as soon as someone identifies their pet.
