Miley Cyrus Pays Tribute to Liam Hemsworth with New Song ‘Flowers’
Miley Cyrus Releases New Song ‘Flowers’, Referencing Her Failed Relationship With Liam Hemsworth
Pop star Miley Cyrus is making waves with her new single, “Flowers”. Taking inspiration from her turbulent relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth, the song offers a unique insight into their romance.
The song was released on March 10, 2023 to coincide with Cyrus’s upcoming album, Endless Summer Vacation. As the first single from the project, it has already enthralled fans around the world.
In the first verse, Cyrus talks about how her relationship with someone (“good” and “gold”) eventually fell apart. Although she does not mention Hemsworth’s name, she does refer to the house they shared, singing: “We built a home and watched it burn”.
The pre-chorus is thought to be Cyrus’s response to Mars’s song “When I Was Your Man”, which was allegedly written by Hemsworth in one of the couple’s breakups. Cyrus sings, “I can buy myself flowers/ Talk to myself for hours/ Tell me things you wouldn’t understand.”
Another standout moment in the song is the accompanying video, where Cyrus can be seen dancing without inhibition, a stark contrast to Hemsworth’s request not to dance at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscars After Party.
The video also features Cyrus wearing a blazer similar to the one Hemsworth wore to the 2019 Met Gala, their last red carpet appearance together.
Though the video offers up some clues and references, fans will have to wait until the release of Endless Summer Vacation to fully understand Cyrus’s message.
