After Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Brazil, which secured their spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Argentine media wasted no time in asking coach Javier Mascherano about the three players over 23 years of age he can bring to the event. Mascherano openly spoke about his former international and personal friend, Lionel Messi.

Mascherano expressed his friendship with Messi and stated that the doors are open for him to join the team. He also extended an invitation to another player he would like to coach at the Olympic Games, Angel Di Maria. However, Mascherano acknowledged that both players have other commitments, and it will depend on their availability.

Messi celebrated Argentina’s qualification on his social media, showing his support for the team. Both Messi and Di María were already Olympic champions in 2008, and the coincidence is that Mascherano was also a starter in that team.

One concern is the proximity of the Olympics to the Copa America 2024, which will be played in the United States. The final of the Copa America is scheduled for July 14, while the start of the 2024 Olympic Games in soccer is set for 10 days later in Marseille.

Despite the scheduling conflict, Mascherano is hopeful that both Messi and Di Maria will be able to join the team for the Olympics. He emphasized that there is still time to talk to them and that for now, the team should focus on enjoying their victory.
