Mason Mount leaning towards Manchester United move
After interest from both Arsenal and Liverpool, playmaker Mason Mount is reportedly eyeing a move to Manchester United. The Athletic reports that Mount favours a switch to Old Trafford and that other clubs in the race are now aware of his stance.
Mount is out of contract in 2024 and there has been no progress on a new deal to stay at Chelsea. The Daily Mail recently reported that Manchester United will offer £55million for Mount this summer, but this is £30million short of the £85million price Chelsea have placed on the player.
Arsenal and Liverpool miss out
This news will come as a blow for both Arsenal and Liverpool, who had been hoping to secure Mount’s services. Goal reported in April that Arsenal had held talks over a move to bring Mount to the Emirates Stadium this summer. A move to trade Chelsea for Arsenal always seemed unlikely, however, with there being a big difference between selling Jorginho to letting Mount join Arsenal.
Liverpool, on the other hand, appeared to be the frontrunners for Mount, with rumors suggesting that a deal seemed possible. The London Evening Standard reported in April that Liverpool were making ‘increasingly aggressive advances’ to try and sign Mount. Yet the rumour seems to have gone quiet in recent weeks, with Liverpool seemingly focusing on Brighton and Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister instead.
The Reds’ loss is United’s gain?
Mount looked destined to be wearing a Liverpool shirt next season, but he could now head to Anfield with their bitter rivals instead. It remains to be seen whether Manchester United will meet Chelsea’s asking price, but it seems that Mount is keen to make the switch to Old Trafford. The loss of Mount will be felt by Chelsea, who will hope to keep hold of other key players this summer.
