Christopher Edward Anderson has been convicted of murdering his wife, Tonya Davis Anderson, on July 20, 2021. The 39-year-old man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for fatally shooting his wife in their Spring apartment. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the conviction and stated that Anderson had a history of violence, including a conviction for aggravated assault against a family member. He was also arrested seven months before the murder for suffocating Tonya’s 16-year-old son. Despite these incidents, Anderson was able to post bail and was ordered to stay away from Tonya and her son, wear a GPS ankle monitor, and not possess any firearms.

However, Anderson was at Tonya’s apartment on the night of the murder when an argument broke out between the two. A neighbor testified that she heard Tonya yell at Anderson to leave before she heard gunshots. Tonya’s son was also in the apartment when the shooting occurred and called 911. Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. After the shooting, Anderson took Tonya’s car and fled. He ditched the gun and phone and drove to another location to remove the ankle monitor. He then drove across town and abandoned the car. Three days later, authorities located Anderson at his parents’ home in another county and arrested him.

A Harris County jury convicted Anderson on the seventh day of judgment. Following the verdict, Anderson faced life in prison. He and prosecutors agreed to a 40-year prison sentence in exchange for Anderson waiving his right to appeal his conviction and prison sentence. Deputy District Attorney Matthew Magill prosecuted the case, along with Assistant District Attorney Steve Walsh, both assigned to the prosecutor’s Domestic Violence Division. Magill stated, “It appears they were in the house together, they got into an argument and it escalated. He put her on her back in a bathroom while she was trying to escape from him; in fact, a neighbor heard her scream to stop. No one deserves to die like that.”

The case of Christopher Edward Anderson and Tonya Davis Anderson is a tragic example of domestic violence, which is a serious issue that affects many families. This can include physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and financial abuse.
