Lula Claims Bolsonaro Was Behind “Coup Attempt” in Brazil on 8 January
**Progressive President of Brazil Lula Blames Jair Bolsonaro for Coup Attempt**
President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva this Wednesday raised the tone against his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro, for the “coup attempt” by his most radical followers on January 8, accusing him of inciting hatred and lying to society.
Lula denounced in an act with union representatives at the Planalto Palace, in Brasilia, “What happened here was an attempted coup by prepared people. I don’t know if the former president ordered it, but what I know is that he is to blame because he spent four years inciting hatred.”
“Democracy is guaranteed with culture, with books, with debate, with education, with food, with employment…” he listed, having taken power on January 1st. Bolsonaro, who is currently in the United States, was included, at the request of the Attorney General’s Office, in an investigation list by the Supreme Court.
A horde of thousands of radical Bolsonarists invaded and wreaked havoc on the headquarters of Congress, the Presidency and the Supreme Court on the 8th, with some 1,800 demonstrators detained. Lula also denounced last week the collusions of the security forces.
The government removed 13 soldiers from their duties today, joining another 40 relieved yesterday from their posts in the presidential palace, while a court decreed preventive detention today for 140 of them.
