London Reports: Large Part of Soledar Under Control of Russian Troops and Wagner Group

Ukraine is facing a major challenge as Russian troops and Wagner mercenaries have made “tactical advances” in the strategic city of Soledar located in Donetsk region, 10km north of Bakhmut. According to the reports by British intelligence, the Russians have taken control of most parts of the area.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy drew attention to the intense resistance being put up by the Ukrainians in Soledar where he stated that hardly any walls remain intact.

Led by mercenaries of the Wagner private military group, Russia has been making constant efforts to capture Bakhmut but have witnessed relentless opposition from the Ukrainian forces. As a result, much of the city has been destroyed.

In response, the leader of Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, declared that the attack on Soledar is being carried out solely by his organization.

The People’s Republic of Donetsk has demanded annexing of Donetsk and three other Ukrainian regions via a referendum in September, however, the referendum was not recognized by Ukraine or any other international bodies.

Ukraine is continuing to bear the bloodiest brunt of the combat with Russia’s advancement in the region between Bakhmut and Soledar.
