Liverpool secured a 4-1 victory over Chelsea in a match on matchday 22 of the English Premier League. The match took place at Anfield and was held in honor of Jürgen Klopp. Meanwhile, Manchester City also maintained their position at the top of the Premier League by defeating Burnley 3-1.
The game at Anfield saw Darwin Núñez taking center stage with five of his team’s seven shots in the first 20 minutes, including a volley that hit the post. Diogo Jota opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a slalom that ended with him getting between the centre-backs and beating the rival goalkeeper with a low shot from close range. The young right back Conor Bradley made it 2-0 in the 39th minute with a cross shot as soon as he entered the Chelsea area, assisted by Luis Díaz. Just before the break, Núñez hit the post with a penalty. However, Dominik Szoboszlai headed home the third goal in the 65th minute from Bradley’s cross. Although Christopher Nkunku reduced the gap in the 71st minute with a shot that hit the post, Liverpool continued to dominate and scored the final 4-1 thanks to Díaz in the 79th minute, clinching a good cross at the far post of Núñez from the left wing.
This victory placed Liverpool in the lead with 51 points, followed by Manchester City with 46 points and a match still pending on the calendar. Manchester City defeated Burnley thanks to a double from Julián Álvarez in just 22 minutes and another goal from Rodri Hernández right at the start of the second half. Tottenham Hotspur are not far behind in 4th place with 43 points, coming back at home (3-2) against Brentford with goals from Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson, and Richarlison.
