Lima challenges Barranquilla for Pan American Games 2027

Lima, which hosted the 2019 edition of the Pan American Games, is now aiming to organize the 2027 edition to replace Barranquilla. The 2027 Pan American Games has been seeking candidates for its organization, and on January 18, it was confirmed that Lima has the support of the Government to formalize its intention. This is a blow to Colombia, as they lost the organization in Barranquilla.

After Panam Sports opened the call to look for a new headquarters, Lima got the last detail it needed – the approval of President Dina Boluarte. Now, Lima joins AsunciĆ³n and the Colombian city in the race to win the hosting rights for the 2027 Pan American Games.

It is important to note that President Petro will meet with Neven Ilic, president of Panam, on January 26 to discuss how to recover the headquarters. Additionally, in February, an extraordinary assembly will be held with the 41 members to confirm the city that will organize the competition.
