Shaquille O’Neal, a former Los Angeles Lakers legend, recently spoke with Page Six at his annual Super Bowl party, Shaq’s Fun House, at the Wynn Las Vegas hotel. During the event, he revealed the advice he gave to NFL star Jason Kelce regarding his possible retirement.

O’Neal, who is 51 years old and a four-time NBA champion, spoke about Kelce’s potential retirement and seemed to reference his own failed marriage when he advised the Philadelphia Eagles center to “not be an idiot like me.” He emphasized the importance of enjoying family and not making the same mistakes he did.

The advice was given to Kelce during a dinner meeting at O’Neal’s Las Vegas restaurant. Although O’Neal did not explicitly mention his failed marriage, it is believed that he was referring to his marriage with ex-wife Shaunie, with whom he shares five children. They were married from 2002 until 2011, the same year O’Neal retired from the NBA.

In 2022, O’Neal publicly took responsibility for the divorce, admitting that he did not uphold their vows throughout the marriage. He encouraged Kelce to cherish his beautiful wife, Kylie Kelce, and to prioritize happiness and family.

O’Neal’s words of wisdom for Kelce come from personal experience and reflect his desire to prevent others from making the same mistakes he did. His openness about his own shortcomings serves as a valuable lesson for Kelce and others who may be facing similar life decisions.
