Latin America Takes the Spotlight at Miss Universe 2022

Miss Universe 2022 Crown: the most expensive in history

The Miss Universe 2022 competition to decide the most beautiful woman in the world will take place this Saturday in New Orleans (southern US); with many Latin American candidates among the favourites and a new crown that has been proclaimed the most expensive in history.

The competition was postponed last year due to the World Cup in Qatar, hence the winner will hold the title of “Miss Universe 2022”, even though the ceremony takes place in 2023.

The new Miss Universe will receive the “Force for Good” crown, with 993 precious stones, a 45.14-carat sapphire and a diamond base, valued at 5.3 million dollars. The crown was made by the Lebanese businessman Fred Mouawad, who is considered the eighth richest diamond owner in the world.

The jury is comprised of Cuban journalist Myrka Dellanos, Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete, Emily Austin, CEO and founder of O Skin Med Spa Olivia Quido, rapper and Hip-Hop singer Big Freedia, Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam and Sweta Patel, Executive of Roku Company.

In the preliminary ceremony, broadcast on YouTube, the contestants competed with their evening dress, national costume and swimsuit and a total of 16 semifinalists were chosen, instead of the 20 that were chose in the past.

The two-hour ceremony will be broadcast in Spanish on Telemundo, and hosted by model and Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo and American host Jeannie Mai. The musical lineup features Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Amanda Shaw, Tank and The Bangas and Yolanda Adams.

The finalists will also be chosen by popular vote through the Miss Universe website. Thus, on Saturday the world will witness the election of Miss Universe 2022 in what promises to be an extraordinary event.
