Kunal Nayyar Surprises Fans With Dramatic Transformation for New Projects
Kunal Nayyar, renowned for his iconic role as Raj Koothrappali, on the long-running sitcom The Big Bang Theory, has now surprised fans with a dramatic transformation as he pursues a new career path.
After appearing on the show for 12 years, Nayyar decided it was time to expand his horizons, and take up roles in other drama productions.
Recently, Nayyar was casted in Netflix’s ‘Criminal: United Kingdom’, where he plays Sandeep Singh, a convicted murderer, and another role in Apple TV+’s ‘Suspects’ where he becomes one of the suspects in a kidnapping.
The actor explained that taking on different roles and looks was an initiative to break away from being recognized as the same figure from The Big Bang Theory.
“Physically, my voice is very recognizable and so is my face… it was important to do something that would completely break down that barrier,” he said.
The Big Bang Theory, which ended in 2019, was highly successful and famously brought the main characters to fame. The show featured a group of four geeky friends and their beautiful female counterpart, and became a beloved cult classic among fans.
The productions Nayyar is now undertaking are very different to the show and they seem to be suiting the actor just fine as he continues to transition away from Raj Koothrappali.
