Kirchnerism to seek weekly special sessions to reject Milei’s mega DNU

Senatorial Kirchnerism, led by José Mayans and Anabel Fernández Sagasti, announced on Thursday that they will be requesting the vice president and head of the Upper House, Victoria Villarruel, to call a special session every week to discuss the mega Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) that deregulates the economy.

The decision was made during a press conference held in the office of Senator José Mayans, with almost the entire interblock of 33 legislators present, except for Sergio Uñac and Juan Manzur. Kirchnerism had previously requested a special session for the following day, but Villarruel decided not to call it. However, her entourage mentioned that she may consider calling it in the future.

Senator Mayans emphasized the importance of the vice president’s impartiality in the Upper House, stating that if five senators present a note, as per the regulations, a session must be called and the chamber must be opened. He also expressed concerns about the potential closure of Parliament, comparing it to actions taken in dictatorships.

Anabel Fernández Sagasti, representing La Cámpora, also expressed their intention to insist on discussing the DNU every week, criticizing the vice president for failing to fulfill her duties as a public official.

The ongoing developments in this matter will be updated as they unfold.
