Affordable Housing Training
The organization offers a skills training program for individuals interested in jobs related to affordable housing. The program aims to connect New Yorkers who live in NYCHA buildings or affordable housing apartments to opportunities in this field. However, people who do not live in these buildings can also apply. The requirements for this program are as follows:
– Be over 18 years old and have permission to work in the country
– Have a high school diploma
– Be a resident of New York City
– Have schedule availability
The next training session begins on February 20 and consists of a 4-week training program and an 80-hour paid internship.
Truck Driver Training
In collaboration with Red Hook on The Road, the organization helps unemployed individuals obtain their commercial driver’s license to work as a school bus, commercial bus, or truck driver. The requirements for this program are:
– Be unemployed (cannot work part-time as an Uber, delivery person, etc.)
– Be 21 years old or older
– Live in New York and be eligible to work in the country
– Have schedule availability from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday
– Must pass a drug test
– Not have a DWI or DUI
– Must have a valid driver’s license
The organization also offers training in carpentry for unemployed and low-income individuals. During the training, participants will learn how to safely operate tools and machinery, work with wood and artificial materials, and obtain their OSHA 30 certification. The training program lasts for 7 weeks.
